The importance of Electric Power

Batteries are the lifeline of your electric equipment and often time's batteries and chargers are neglected or forgotten about and far too often it leads to equipment not operating efficiently.

 

We consider Battery and charger maintenance a vital component to any service program.

 

Batteries should be checked in conjunction with daily operator forklift checks to ensure that

 

  • Cable connection are secure, no cable cuts or abrasions,

  • Battery water levels are proper,

  • Battery connectors are not damaged.

  • Battery is secure in compartment etc...

 

We will design a program that best suits your operation which will include cleaning of the battery, check water levels, fully inspect cables, check outer case and connector for cracks and record specific gravities and voltage readings.

 

Chargers should be blown out at least every 3 months or more in dusty environments

Charger cables should be inspected for cuts or abrasions

Charger connectors should be inspected for cracks or worn out contact tips

Helpful do's and dont's of maintaining a battery

DO

 

  • DO: Conduct pre-shift regular inspections and maintenance especially in hot weather.

  • DO:  Recharge batteries immediately after recommended discharge level

  • DO: Ensure the battery is secure in the battery compartment

  • DO: Ensure it meets the minimum battery weight requirment for your lift truck as specified by the OEM

 

DON'T

 

  • DON'T: Disconnect battery cables while charging

  • DON'T: Pull on the actual battery cables, always use the battery connector.

  • DON'T: Put off recharging batteries.

  • DON'T: Discharge a battery any deeper than the recommended manufacturer suggests

  • DON'T: Mix size and different battery types when charging, use only recommended proper size charger
